In this article, you'll learn:
How Yorba finds paid accounts and subscriptions
Yorba scans your transaction history for recurring (i.e. monthly, yearly) subscription fees, and traces them back to the accounts charging you said fees.
Yorba will never ask you to share or connect credit cards or bank accounts with us. Instead, we use Plaid to securely mediate a connection to your bank(s).
Keeping your financial info secure is our top priority
To maximize your security and minimize the amount of personal data we need to access directly, we use Plaid, a data transfer network used by thousands of banks, apps, and fintech services like Venmo, Expensify, Betterment, Sofi, and Acorns.
When you use Yorba to initiate a search for your paid accounts, you'll authorize Yorba to connect to Plaid, who will in turn, mediate a connection to your bank(s). This allows Yorba to view only the information we need to do find your accounts, and nothing else.
We never learn or store your actual credit card or bank account numbers – only the names and types of accounts (so we can differentiate one from another).
How long can this scan take?
Yorba might need up to 24 hours to find accounts associated with your finances, depending on how much you've asked us to scan. We'll notify you in the app (and via email) when your results are ready for review!
Search for paid accounts and subscription fees
Click "Import Stuff" on the left side panel from Yorba's homepage. Then, choose "Find accounts associated with your finances."
After a couple of informational screens, you'll be asked to connect your financial info. When you click "Continue," a pop-up will ask you to connect to Plaid.
Select the financial institution you'd like to investigate first. We suggest you start with whichever bank/institution you use to pay for the most things online.
You can simultaneously inspect multiple entities (e.g. credit/debit cards) at the same bank/institution, but you can only connect one institution at a time. You'll be able to connect additional banks later on.
A window will pop up for you to sign in to your selected institution. Your username and password will not be shared with Plaid, nor with Yorba.
Depending on your bank, you might get screens that provide additional context.
Your particular bank (i.e. not Yorba) will determine if you can select (or deselect) specific cards, bank accounts, etc. Some institutions will automatically connect all eligible financial instruments.
Once everything is set with your financial institution, click "Continue."
Label each payment method: indicate what your card/bank account/etc is used for (e.g.) "Personal", "Work" or, "School" stuff. This will help Yorba categorize any accounts associated with that payment method and help you better organize your accounts within Yorba.
At this point, you can disconnect any payment methods you do not want to be scanned for accounts.
Choose to add any other payment methods you'd like to scan for account subscriptions. We suggest you connect all payment methods you use, as this is the best and only way to uncover your entire digital footprint – but that's your call!
PLEASE NOTE: Currently, we only offer this service for US-based credit cards, debit cards, and bank accounts.
