How Yorba finds accounts via email address

Email addresses are the primary way businesses associate you with your accounts. Yorba has two ways to look for accounts you've created over the years using your email address:

Inbox(es) scan - recommended

By scanning an inbox for sign-up emails and automated mailing lists (e.g. newsletters), we can infer the existence of the accounts that sent them.

Directly connecting an inbox to Yorba yields far more accounts than you’ll find via public search alone.

Public web search

Searching the web for public associations of your email addresses with companies on the web will only find accounts made public due to their involvement in a data breach.

What can Yorba access during an inbox scan?

We’ll scan connected inboxes for two things:

  1. Language patterns typical of an email sent in response to creating a new account.

  2. Metadata and/or text indicative of an email sent via automated mailing list (as opposed to by an actual person).

Other than the names of the companies who send you such emails – plus statistics we provide you re: the frequency/quantity of those emails and how often you actually open them – nothing in or about your emails will be stored, analyzed, or otherwise messed around with in any way. No info will be shared with or sold to a third party.

How long can an inbox scan take?

Yorba might take up to 24 hours to complete the inbox scan, depending on how much you've asked us to scan. We'll notify you in the app (and via email) when your results are ready for review!

Search for accounts via email

  1. Click "Import Stuff" on the left side panel from Yorba's homepage. Then, choose "Find accounts associated with your email addresses."

  2. Add all your emails: Enter and label all the email addresses you want Yorba to look for. Entering most of your emails ensures we uncover the maximum amount of your digital footprint.

  3. Connect inboxes (optional): We'll automatically detect if any of your email addresses are also eligible for an inbox scan. For now, it's Gmail-based inboxes only. We're working to expand to other inboxes soon – we're a small team! Click "Sign in with Google" to grant us read-only access to your inbox. Click "Learn more" (or visit our Data Security page) for more context.

  4. Verify emails: For your security, we’ll need you to verify that each of your not-connected inboxes is yours before we show any scan results.

  5. Click "Find my accounts" to start the search.
